President of the East-West Center from 1981 to 1990, Dr. Li was born in China and educated in the United States. He graduated from Columbia Law School, holds two post-graduate degrees from Harvard Law School, taught at Stanford University as Shelton Professor of International Legal Studies and served as director of the Center for East Asian Studies. He also taught at Columbia Law School and the University of Michigan Law School. He publishes regularly in the area of Chinese law, and is currently involved in numerous projects in the PRC.
