Professor Seo's major research interests are East Asian politics, nationalism and the political economy of culture. He recently completed his dissertation, "Nationalism in the Market: the Chinese publishing industry and the nationalistic discourses in 1990s," at the University of Chicago. He is currently working on two China-related projects:

  1. the concept of democracy during the Tiananmen Democratic Movement in 1989
  2. the role of cultural industry in shaping 'East Asian identity.'
