On April 10, 2007, the Confucius Institute at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa hosted a symposium at the Pacific Club titled "Support & Resources for Starting and Expanding Chinese Language and Culture Programs and Opportunities" with keynote speaker Robert Davis, Director of the Confucius Institute at Chicago Public Schools. CPS is already training thousands of students in the Chinese language and runs an active summer program to send students to China.
In addition, a panel of experts gave presentations about some of the Confucius Institute's new initiatives: our 2007 Mandarin Chinese Summer Immersion Sports Camp, the new College Board Advanced Placement Examination of Chinese, suggestions for curriculum development, and teacher training opportunities with the Confucius Institute.
Luncheon was served to 40 participants, comprising Honolulu public and private school teachers and administrators, and UH Manoa and UH community college faculty and administrators, as well as representatives from the Hawaii Board of Education and the Governor's Office.
