In the U.S. healthcare system there is much confusion in our legal system about the very concept of non-allopathic medicine. Although legal professionals like to have clear definitions to work with, such bright-line definitions are lacking in this subject area. This paper will address basic issues in the regulation of non-allopathic medicine in the United States. It will first look at the differing definitions involved. It will next address the traditional federal government-state government roles in regulating healthcare, including the regulation of food products and supplements in treating individuals. It will then look at various state statutes which impact upon this old-yet-new area of healthcare in the U.S.
